Intuition At Work
I feel the pull to discuss intuition with you.
I often get asked about how I use my intuition. People ask me for readings; they ask how to know when to use your gut, and what the difference is between ego and intuition.
So let’s talk about it - Yes, intuition is your gut and so much more. Here’s some information in a nutshell.
Intuition is something that comes to you with a flow feeling, not the pushy get-it-done feeling. It is a soft, gentle whisper that holds the answers to all of your questions. Intuition can be accessed by going within and being still so you can pay attention to what is happening within you right now. You have access to your intuition, and it’s ready for you to tap into whenever you need it.
Intuition often comes with a feeling in your body. This can be a subtle flutter in the tummy (hence the phrase "gut feeling") or goosebumps on the arms, but it is usually something you feel with your physical senses.
Intuition can help guide decisions and encourage creativity and innovation. You can ask questions and then wait for an answer to come through in one form or another.
When you get that gut feeling that says, “I left the stove on,” and you go back to the stove to find out that you did, that is your intuition speaking to you. Maybe you are driving down the road, and you get the feeling you should turn left and take the long way home. Or maybe you’re in the shower, and you have an incredible download of information on a project you are working on, or perhaps you have a strong feeling to look at employment opportunities at XYZ company and find the perfect job. All of these are intuition.
However, most of us ignore our intuition. Many times we think it is a silly thought and find out later we should have listened because you burnt your pan that you left on the stove, by not taking a long way home you encountered a huge pothole which now means you have to spend money to get your car realigned, or you don’t say anything about the project for 3 weeks and find out your idea was right, and all you did was delay your project.
How do you use Intuition at work? Well, it has come into play many times in my career, from pivoting my business to how I navigated the world of HR. I used it when recruiting and interviewing employees when investing in a new product, when I was coaching managers, and discussing an employee relations issue with senior management.
It is important to understand that intuition isn’t the same as a feeling or emotion. We often use our feelings and emotions to make decisions, but when we tap into our intuition, it is more knowledge-based than emotional-based. Intuition can be used in many areas of life, including careers, relationships, health, and spirituality. It allows us to take information from many sources and synthesize it into a decision.
Investing in yourself will pay dividends when it comes to making decisions for yourself and your career. Start by reflecting on past experiences where you have used intuition and think about how you can use it to make decisions going forward. Make sure to take time for yourself, whether that is a few moments of meditation or just some quiet time with your thoughts. By engaging in self-care activities, you can tap into the power of your inner wisdom. By nurturing our connection to intuition, we can gain clarity.
Now you’re asking, what about the data? Doesn’t data mean something? My answer is yes! By all means, you should look at the data. However, if you have a gut feeling something is wrong, then reexamine the data. Maybe you need to dive deeper, or maybe the timeline is off on your project, or it needs a pivot of some sort. These are all great questions to ask yourself if your "gut feeling" or Intuition is telling you something is off as you are looking at the data.
It is also important to note that intuition is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Everyone’s intuition works differently, and some people have more of an aptitude for it than others.
You can practice developing your intuition through various activities such as meditation; calming your mind is a part of this. When you meditate on a regular basis, you are opening up your downloads. The universe works at a different vibration to send the information to you, and sometimes the universe has a funny sense of humor and likes to see you work at figuring out the answers. So, when in doubt, ask the universe to send you more information, calm your mind and listen.
